Empire Name: The Pruserian Republic

Empire Size: Massive:
A massive empire has spread its influence over an impressive amount of land. It has up to six regions. Massive empires control a considerable amount of space, and often have difficulty protecting the full extent of their territory.

Name of the Capital and surrounding Cities

Warmia - Fredericksburgh. #45 The most Industrial province of the Republic, and its capitol, Warmia is home to a grand variety of factories and manufacturing plants. It also has a thriving amount of coal plants providing power to its citizens. Most of the province is urbanized, and little of the territory has not been populated. It is an economic powerhouse in the Republic, and it is the most important province in the republic mostly for its ability to produce goods. What it produces that doesn't sell in province gets shipped to all other Republican provinces by the extensive railways that connect the cities. The city of Fredericksburgh is also home to the Knightly Order of Pruseria. Within the head chapters walls lies the most wealthy and well invested political faction in the Republic. The cities Medieval origins are preserved to this day by the elderly knight curators, charged with caring for the artifacts of the past. The old walls of the city, while now unused, still house a ceremonial guard of Knights still wearing the White capes and steel breastplates from days gone by. Their plumed helms are a sight to see on a warm spring day. While these men may have a ceremonial duty, that does not mean they are untrained. Each is a top notch officer, and armed with a Rifle and short sword. They act as Guards in the outer districts during times of stress and war. They also guard the entrance to the Governor and Protectorates quarters as well as in Knight chapter houses in other provinces. The cities position on the River Elbe and its closeness to the sea lend it a decent place for a shipyard and port if one were ever needed. The area certainly aids ships going to and from the industrial zones carrying steel and other freight.

Vienna - Augsburgh #44 The closest and most well tied to the capitol province of Warmia, Vienna is more sparsely populated than its industrialized sister province, though just as important. Within its borders lies a great wealth in mineral resources found in the mountain range that crosses the province. Most of its cities, including Augsburgh, lie in valleys between the mountains. The climate in this province is often chilly, due to its higher elevation. Besides the mineral wealth of this province there are also thriving livestock areas in the valleys not held by cities. these provide a decent source of meats and furs fro the people of the republic that free it from the high taxes of foreign goods. While populated to a lesser degree than its neighboring province, it does provide a decently sized population. This province also houses the second largest chapter house of the Order of Pruseria next to Warmia. Along the edges of the province lye the old castles of the Verangian Kingdom. The provinces present borders almost match the old borders of this kingdom mile for mile. These fortresses were placed at chokepoints in the mountains, and are still used today by the Knights to Guard the Northern territories, while the southern ones hold skeleton guards. These areas also act as toll areas for the roads leading to and from the province. People entering are taxed a pittance to enter the area unless on official Knightly business. While the same fortresses are used, however, they have not simply been refitted. High tech bunkers and barbed wire now lye around the old fortresses, as well as fully equipted barracks for an entire brigade in every fort. These are fully equipted military bases run and maintained by the government and the Knights jointly.

Liveland - Berlin #46 Unlike the other more heavily populated provinces, Livland houses the smallest population in the country. It is best known for its agriculture, though it does share some of the mineral wealth of the mountains near the border of Vienna. Probably the best part of this vast flatland is the coast. Well known for its vineyards and its seafood, Its culture has grown accustomed to the unique foods found there. Its biggest city, Berlin, lies on the coast and is a great city of culture and science. While the population in this province is small, it still holds the third largest Order chapterhouse. The old Port of Valentia lies within the city limits of Berlin. The port was one of the earlier Knightly strongholds, and was a center of trade back in its day. Now it lies mostly in ruin, with modern harbors beginning to take their place, though you can still see them in some places.

Estland - Riga #47 Estland is generally one of the lesser provinces of the empire as far as production goes. However, it more than makes up for that in commerce. It bears many of the same traits as its western cousin. The biggest difference is one of population and trade. While Liveland is sparsely populated, Estlands populations are a good deal bigger than the neighboring territory simply because of its position in the empire. It is a commerce power due to the fact that all railroads cross through its largest city. It is a city of merchants, and highly profitable to own. More trade comes through the rest of the republic and from other countries to there than anywhere else in the country. Aside from its trading position, the area is mostly more farmland, with a more heavily forested eastern area near its connection to Hesse. Hesse is the only province to not have a chapter in the Order, specifically because many of the residents of this province either only care for trade or live elsewhere most of the time. The residents of the area still serve in the armed forces, however, just not the command structure of the army. The major merchant families of the Republic make their homes here in Riga, preferring the luxurious city of commerce to the industrial city of Fredericksburgh. This is the most decadent province of the Republic, and is generally viewed with distaste by the Knights and men of government.

Hesse - Vicksburgh #36 Hesse sits in a heavily forested wilderness. It has the lowest population of any province in the empire and most of its inhabitants stick in small communities. its largest city is home to only a few tens of thousands of people. While the edges of the territory have started to be reclaimed, much of it still remains in the hands of wealthy families, given as inheritance from one generation to the next, acting as a stable supply of wealth. Unfortunately this has left the territory without much industrialization in the past few decades when it started for the rest of the provinces. The people here are generally considered backward and are looked down upon by many in other regions. many regional slurs about them have cropped up in other areas. their cuisine is mostly simple grains and hunted animals. The smallest order chapter house lies within the city of Vicksburgh. There are rumors, however, of an old citadel hidden deep within the forest, an old relic of the Hessen Order of Knights, who were victimized for heresy and exiled by the church. Many of them were killed in other countries, and the Most Venerable Order of Pruseria took claim of their lands within the Republic before they disappeared forever. Their Holdings are now part of the Republic. A few explorers have investigated these rumors in the past, though nothing has ever been found.

Luxembourg - Aachen #37 Luxembourg is known by many in the republic as a major military production and housing area. Half of the nation’s military supplies are housed in this area, and a great many soldiers are stationed here in peacetime. This area is the second most industrialized province in the nation, and supplies many wartime necessities for the nation. In peacetime these are sold to friendly countries. The City of Aachen is actually a military outpost from which a city sprung from retired soldiers and factory workers. The Military outpost in the territory is expansive, and capable of housing more than 400 thousand men at any time, more if pushed to it. In times of war in the past, the Fields normally unoccupied outside of the city have filled with tents when the army marshaled in the area.

Empire's Government: Republic - A Republic is a representative government. While other governments might rules by tradition, wealth, or force of arms, the republic rules through the will of the people. Apart from elections, republics can take many forms, from parliamentary to senatorial. Still, representatives will always rule at the whims of political elections.

Patriotism : Because they choose their rulers and representatives, the electorate of a republic is far more invested in the success of their government than the citizens of other empires. Indeed, the citizens of a republic are often proud of their government, and would have no other in its place. This exceptional loyalty is most apparent in times of trial, where people will rally behind the government.
- If a Republic's regions are invaded, militia will join the regular army in repelling them. Republic's gain three standard infantry regiments. Once the enemy has been repelled, these militias will disperse.

Demagoguery : People are often easily swayed by the whims of rhetoric and their own prejudices. Too often, opportunistic and unscrupulous people will get themselves elected through fear and hyper-nationalism. At the best of times, these people are corrupt and power-hungry, at worst they believe their own words, and will often take every opportunity to forward their agendas.
- Republic regions lose a 2 points of Public Approval if a region's economy falls below 3 or if they lose a war.

Name of the Empire's Leaders:
-- (Please give a detailed description).
Grand Protectorate - Frederick IV Von Oldenburgh
A patient, enigmatic man, the Grand Protectorate of the Republic has won the nomination and election three times in the last decade, and is beloved by his people. A high ranking member of the Most Venerable Order of Pruseria, He has extensive military training, and is a shrewd commander. He was personally in command of the suppression of the communist rebellion in Vienna. A strong leader, he views his position with respect and honor. He aims to guide the country into the modern era as gradually as possible. A hard conservative at heart, he looks with scorn on such insane ideas as communism and socialism. His greatest annoyance has been the new communist state to the north, which he has viewed with apprehension for some time now....

Grand Master of the Order of Pruseria - Ulrich III Von Liechtenstein. A man of short patience and a military genius, The Grand Master was selected as the next head of the Order when the former Grand master, Godfred Von Lien veil, was killed in the communist rebellion. At the Time Ulrich was the second in command next to him in the order, and the obvious heir to the title. During the rebellion, Ulrich personally led the defense of Augsburgh. He has become a legend among the ranks after personally taking a rifle from a scared infantry-men and killing three communists as they burst through the door when assaulting the armory. He then proceeded to rally the men there and retake the City with just 400 men vs. 2000. He was too late to save the Grand Master though, who was killed in the street when the communists first rose up. Ulrich Has so far lived up to reputation, and is well known for surprise military inspections on most of the fortifications, making the inspections personally. He has raised discipline in the ranks by a notable measure, and is well esteemed in the Knightly community.

Secretary of State - Manfred Van Helsing A solid, Stocky man, Manfred grew up as the eldest child of nine. He grew into the roll of a statesmen by defending his younger siblings, and delegating work to them on the family estate when work needed doing. Manfred is of sound character and a quite reputable background. He came to political office at the age of 19 as a Diplomat for the Knights and the Republic to the Militian Empire. Later on he took to leading the diplomatic branch of the Order of Pruseria, and eventually running for office for secretary of state. During the Communist Revolt, he personally led the peace talks with their leader, tying him up while the Knights and armies of Pruseria destroyed the rebellion behind him. When the leader found he had been tricked, and looked to Manfred in anger, Manfred had already drawn his pistol to shoot the traitor to the Republic. A skilled diplomat and renowned delayer, Manfred is viewed as cunning and valuable by the Republic.

Commander Charles “The Hammer” Martel – Supreme commander of the northern armies, Charles is a well known and brutal commander. He accepts no quarter, and brokers no compromise. He personally led his armies down from the border to crush the main revolting army in the Communist revolts. When his army had broken and routed them, he captured more than 3000 communist rebels. He had them all executed for treason to the Republic. A man of short temper, he is only ranked Knight Protector in the Venerable Order, but has achieved the highest military command in the Republic. He is devoutedly loyal to the Knights and the Republic, though he views the Republic as simply an extension of the Knights and their power base.

1st Commander of the KRAF - Augustus Barbarossa A shrewd man in his 30's, Barbarossa Is a tactical genius in air combat. His skill in a strategic sense is unmatched in most of the world. Not only that, but he was a fighter pilot himself for much of his career. This gives him a unique perspective as he knows the job of his men, and also what he intends for them to do. Unquestionably loyal to the Order, he would give his life for its cause. Barbarossa flew fighter escorts for the bombing of the communist camps in the August revolt in 1909, and has had combat experience since then in other conflicts in which the KRAF was on loan to other countries for support. In the air battle over Vienna, conducted by communist rebels and the KRAF, Barbarossa had 6 confirmed kills in one battle, and 42 kills in his overall career, making him the premier world fighter ace. His record for kills in one battle has not been challenged by anyone. Barbarossa's tactics typicality involve total air domination followed by decisive bombing strikes at key industrial targets, as well as long ranged recon by zeppelin airship. In short, Total aerial superiority. On a lower level of command, Barbarossa prefers flanking maneuvers with an obvious target, and dangerous pilots ind fighters to the side, coming from the sun. Barbarossa is known as the best pilot ever to grace the skies, and is a Hero of the Republic.

Empire History:
In the early days of this region, before the Knights appeared in the north, the land was barbaric, and brutal. Pagan tribes fought each other for cattle, land, and women. At the head of these tribes, the most powerful, was the Warmian Chiefdom. At the height of their power their dominance stretched from the modern province of Warmia (named after them) to the provincial territory of Liveland (then called Livian Land or, the land of the Livonians. they held this land for hundreds of years, with the actual borders varying from king to king based on his competence. The Chiefdoms in this land had settled here in 573 AD. and had reigned for more nearly 600 years. In 1189, A grand host of men collected from across Europa, and funded by Czar Ivan of Chernigov to spread civilization and Christianity to the tribes. The Knightly Order, then known as the Order of Pruseria, carved into the tribes with a force of 40,000 men and dominated what is now known as Vienna with an Iron fist.

This early Crusade into the Tribal lands would span hundreds of years and thousands of tribes as the chiefdoms of the region fought back. The Knights, after consolidating their gains, sent a tributary sum of double what was originally payed for the army, effectively removing any power the Czar had over the lands. However, many of the men of the army wanted to return home. The army was made of over half civilian men conscripted to fight from the northern Tsardom. If these men left, the Order would be vulnerable to the Warmians. Thinking quickly, Grand Master Guillaume De Villiers offered every soldier in his army land for them and their families if they stayed. many of the men, who were poor and destitute i their previous lives, took the offer quickly. those men that were better off in their old, built up homes rejected it though. Inm the end, around 10000 men departed for the north. A full quarter of the army. The Order, totaling around 15000 member Knights and a few hundred priests, set up a republic to govern order lands. While the republic governed outside of the order however, it still payed for military ventured into tribal land.

Over the next 200 years the Order successfully removed Warmia as a threat, and carved out three times the original land for the Republic. By this time, the old Churnogovians and other men of northern decent had intermixed with the local Warmian populations. Being that the the republic was so reliant on the Order, many of these people called themselves Pruserians. In 1435, Grand Master Nicholas of Swabia Ordered the construction of a grand cathedral in Warmia. It still stands today as a pice of national pride. In the next few centuries the Order and the republic suffered from revolts from within, and were unable to continue their conquest of the tribal lands. By the time they had their country under control, a new power had risen in the east. The Kingdom of Estland Had made conquests in the east, subduing the Hessen federation and the Tribal despotism of Luxembourg. With these new conquests, It looked to the Republic and its Knightly army in hunger. In 1634, Goddard II, King of Estland, launched an assault on Livland. The Knights gathered their forces and engaged him in battle on Oct. 12th, 1634. Five months after the initial invasion. The battle resulted in a decisive defeat of Estlandish forces, and the grand Master of the Order, Ulrich I, Launched a counter assault on Estland. The resulting conquest brought in the provinces of Estland and Hesse to the Republic. These lands were troublesome, however, and The order only finally subdued them in 1684.

Over the next century and a half great changes rocked the world. During this time the Grandmasters and Protectorates of the Republic bided their time, waiting to strike again to preserve their power. In 1775 The Republic was in a golden age. Trade was flowing, Nationalism was high, and the Orders Knight recruits were pouring in. Every political office was held by a Knight. Looking to expand their prosperity, they set their sights on the Kingdom of Luxembourg. Once an ally to the Republic, The men of the Order thought it better if they were an official part of it instead of a sattalite. The Kingdom resisted, and in 1777 war broke out. It lasted 4 months, resulting in the annexation of Luxembourg. From this point on the Republic reformed its Government and industrialized. In 1872, however, an economic depression shook the country.

For the next few decades the Republic struggled to right itself, and finally came back from it with a bounce. Suddenly the Republic was back to normal, and a dominant power in the world. In 1909, The republic faced yet another problem. The rise of communism in the north led many in the south to think like mindedly and, on August 30th, 22,000 men rose up in the province of vienna in the name of the revolution. Pruserian forces acted sluggishly, at first unwilling to take on its own people. However, the revolters held no such scruples. In december of 1909, The communists led an assault on Augsburgh. It was repulsed, however, when a combined defense of the City by the New Grand Master Ulrich and the oncoming Armies of Charles Martel crushed the Rebelling forces. The rebelling pilots who had infiltrated the air force had attempted to take the skies from the KRAF. The battle over Vienna resulted in a crushing victory for the Order and Republican forces. Had the rebel planes been free, they would have incurred devastating losses. The last of the communist rebels were executed as traitors by Charles Martel, and their leader shot by the secretary of state while in a meeting to broker peace, in which an outside call confirmed the destruction of the rebel army. The secretary promptly drew his standard issue Knight revolver and shot the traitor to the republic.
